Guess what kids
We travelled all the way from Manchester down to Dover without revealing our secret. We crossed The Channel at 3:30am and drove them all the way to the hotel without even the tiniest glimmer of suspicion. As far as they were concerned they were simply going to France to practice what they had been learning at school.
It wasn’t until we got to the hotel that we told them.
“You want to know the real reason we’ve come to France? We are going to DISNEYLAND!!”
And what a time we had. There were rides, characters to meet and shows galore. And the kids had the time of their lives.
Which is probably just as well, cause I can’t see me making that journey again by car EVER. Top tip for you, if you’re travelling from the north of England DO NOT DRIVE. Especially if you are the sole driver. It took me a week to recover.
Still, it was worth it for this kind of reaction.

I'm Heather, an ex expat, now back in blighty and living in Lancashire. Which is just like Lapland... only less snowy and stuff.

You’re so sneaky! I love surprising children like that.
Big grin on my face reading this.
Totally worth it for that kind of reaction!
Well done for keeping the secret! They do look like they enjoyed it! Love the face paint too!
Aww how fantastic! That reminds me of when we were taking our kids to Lapland and didn’t tell them until the last minute. Then when we said we were going somewhere ‘special’ they all yelled ‘Disneyland’ and started bouncing around excitedly!
Ohhhh How fab! God you must have been busting a gut to tell them! I find it hard enough to keep my mouth shut if I’ve decided on take-out pizza as a treat for tea!
You look to have had a wonderful time – what a lovely surprise for the children!
What a brilliant surprise and moreover one that will stay with them forever, I can’t wait to take the twins just waiting until they’re a little bit older
