About
I’m Heather, an expat Brit, writer, columnist, mother to two (girl 2006, boy 2008) and scooper of poop, both farm and domestic.
Originally from Rochdale, Lancashire, a busy industrial town in the north of England
I now live here. A farm on the edge of a lake, just outside Kuusamo in northern Finland
I’ll let you into a secret…I don’t really live in Lapland. We are about 20kms south of the Lapland border, but Note From Nearly Lapland didn’t have quite the same ring to it.
About Note From Lapland
Note From Lapland is where I write about whatever the hell is on my mind, whether that’s Finnish supermarkets selling vibrators or more serious posts about dealing with life after children and discovering who you are but hopefuly always in an entertaining manner. I swear, I rant and rave, I make you laugh and hopefully also make you think.
I love receiving comments and getting to know the people that read my blog on Twitter and Facebook.
Note From Lapland won the Most Innovative Blog at the MAD Blog Awards in 2010, which came with a lovely prize of £1000 worth of electronics equipment. It has also featured in the Tots 100 -the best parenting blogs in the UK- and the UK Top Parenting Blogs by Wikio.

Hi there and thank you! I shall try to keep you entertained
Moi, THANKS for visiting my blog!
I also hate salmiakki. Tried different types but still couldn't learn to even like the taste ha ha…
Thank GOD. I thought I was the only one that hated Special Agent Oso!
I share your dislike of Facebook & Salmiaki, but Koskenkorva can be quite OK, sometimes =)
I'm afraid we'll have to agree to disagree on that one
Hi there, I’ve just realised that you are a ‘northerner’. I grew up in Rossendale until I came down south to university and never went back!
i wont to get out of this site
Heather,Have you finished your psychological thriller? I just read the chapter you allowed your readers to see, and I am hooked! Please let us know where you are with it, and when it might be published. Couldn’t find your author name anywhere so couldn’t search for it. Will it be published here in the States?
Your blog is funny, informative, and bright. Love it! (And, I’ll bet I am way above the average age of your average reader, but love to read anything that shows wryness, brevity, and intelligence.)On punctuation, proofreading, and spelling, you get a B+, but the content is A++!
As I sit here, typing away, it occurs to me how strange it is that I am writing to someone in Finland, from a very small town in NH, USA, and at the same time, listening and watching a first ever video clip of the far side of the moon on CNN. Incredible!
Anyway, please keep writing. I feel a connection to you and your world. It cheers my soul to read your blog. ‘Nough said? Cheers!
